Lonely Heights
The steps are not drawn. Each one is a single loaded stroke laid down flat and left alone, so the staircase is built out of the same marks that make everything else on the canvas. Warm colour above, cool below, and the stairs cut straight up through the join.
The figure is not standing on the top. One leg is forward and his arms are out from his sides, which is what you do when you are still going up and not sure of the step. There is nothing above him but paint.
