Acrylic painting of a figure standing on top of a tall stack of yellow, red and grey blocks, holding up a lantern in front of a glowing orange sun. Blocks are detaching from the stack and drifting left across a blue sky, growing smaller as they go. White cloud fills the upper left and dark grey smoke banks along the lower left.

Two ways of painting on one canvas. Everything on the left is soft — cloud, smoke and sky blended wet, so nothing on that side has an edge. Everything on the right is hard — flat blocks in yellow, red and grey with clean straight sides. They meet at the figure and nowhere else.

The stack is coming apart. Blocks lift off the top of it and drift left across the sky, getting smaller as they go into the cloud. He is standing on what is left, holding a lantern up in front of a sun. The lantern is the smaller of the two lights, and it is the one he is pointing at the fog.
